Home Ec: DIY Nut Butter

Like fresh nut milk, once you make your own you will never go back!

Ingredients

3 cups freshly roasted unsalted nuts (such as almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts or even sunflower seeds for the nut averse)

Directions

  1. Place nuts on baking sheet, toast for 10 mins on middle rack in a 300 F oven, wiggle them around and then toast again for another 8-10 mins.
  2. Let the nuts cool until they can be handled comfortably. Blend for 1 min on high with high-speed blender. Use tamper or spatula to push the nuts into the blades to help keep the butter going until it is smooth. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator

***Roasting the nuts helps to reduces physic acid and helps combat rancidity. It also makes them tasty and brings out natural oils for the blending.
