DIY Sunscreen Recipe

½ cup olive oil
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup beeswax
2 tablespoons shea butter
2 tablespoons zinc oxide (high quality)
Optional: a few drops of non-citrus, baby friendly essential oil

Directions:

In a double boiler (or a jar in a pan of water over low heat) melt the oils, beeswax, and shea butter together.
Once melted, remove the mix from the heat and let cool to room temperature. Whisk in the zinc oxide at this point, being very careful not to breath in the fumes. You may also add the essential oil at this point, if using.
It’s ready to use! It isn’t waterproof, so reapply often and store in a glass container in the fridge between uses.

Shortcut Tip

For a shortcut recipe, take your favourite natural skin cream (or your baby’s natural bum balm) and whip 2 TBSPs of zinc oxide to that and whip.
