In 2009, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics had 10 children’s face paints tested for heavy metals. 10 out of 10 contained lead and 6 out of 10 contained other heavy metals known to be potential skin allergens (view the report here). That’s in addition to the other chemicals and toxins like parabens, synthetic colors and polyethylene glycol. Have no fear, Glob Natural Face Paints are here to save Halloween.
Glob’s face paints are made with botanical extracts and organic ingredients. They are free from parabens, petro chemicals, synthetic dyes, and titanium dioxide. They also use non-nano zinc oxide in their white paint; the full ingredient list is listed on their website. They are also cruelty-free, made in the USA and their packaged in a recycled paper box printed with vegetable inks.
What's To Love?:
Ingredients. Ingredients. Ingredients. Glob’s ingredients include organic jojoba oil, organic sweet almond oil, turmeric and vanilla. Everything is biodegradable and safe to wash down the sink.
The paints! The face paint set includes 5 colors (white, black, red, blue and yellow) as well as a bamboo applicator. Once you get used to the consistency (it’s fairly thick), they are easy to apply. You can blend the colors together to create new ones. Glob also offers a great bamboo brush set with sponges and applicators to help you with blending and also fine details.
Glob gives back. Each year they send free art supplies to 10 classrooms.
What’s Not To Love?
At $16, Glob’s face paints are pricier than your typical drugstore face paints but I believe it’s worth the extra investment. This is something that you are putting directly on your kids’ (or your own!) skin and it’s important to minimize exposures to toxins like lead and carcinogens.
This product does contain almond oil, so please be aware when using around kids with nut allergies.
